Center for Economic Inclusion hosts virtual book event featuring Andre M. Perry, 8/13
On Aug. 13 (3-4pm CST/4-5pm EST), the Center for Economic Inclusion will host a free live streaming event featuring Andre M. Perry (author; Fellow - Metropolitan Policy Program, Brookings) about his new book, "Know Your Price: Valuing Black Lives & Property in America’s Black Cities" (Brookings, May 2020).

The Center for Economic Inclusion (CEI), in partnership with Brookings, is pleased to bring the virtual book tour to Minnesota.

White supremacy and privilege are deeply ingrained into American public policy and remain pervasive forces that hinder meaningful investment in Black communities.

In the Minneapolis-St. Paul region, the racist devaluation of Black homes and historic practice of redlining has prevented generations of Black families from building wealth and growing assets.

Dr. Perry will speak to how the deliberate devaluation of Black-majority neighborhoods and cities, including MSP, stems from a longstanding legacy of discriminatory policies and what must be done to change it.

Dr. Perry will highlight the social, economic, and political assets of Black-majority cities as a means of empowerment that must be understood to build Black prosperity.

Panel discussion, moderated by Tawanna Black (CEO, Center for Economic Inclusion): Shannon Smith Jones (Hope Community), D'Angelos Svenkeson (NEOO Partners), and Dr. Perry will discuss the historical basis and present-day implications, particularly during the pandemic, of the devaluation of Black communities in the greater MSP region.
